Sightseeing and Walks on Mull
Mull is home to some of the best walks in Scotland, and there’s plenty to do and see as an alternative to the Scottish beaches near the holiday cottages. Click an image for a full size view.
Isle of Iona
This tiny island has had an influence out of all proportion to its size due to the establishment of Christianity in Scotland, England and throughout mainland Europe. The Isle of Iona’s place in history was secured when St. Colomba landed in 563 AD. You can learn more about its history by touring the Isle of Iona Abbey, its museum (carvings, manuscripts and Celtic crosses) and the ruined monastery. There are also craft shops, a good antiquarian/second-hand bookshop, several coffee shops and restaurants. The island also has some of the best walks in Scotland.
Duart Castle
Standing on a cliff top overlooking the Sound of Mull, Duart Castle is the home of the Clan Maclean. Visitors can explore the state rooms, dungeons and parapets and discover more of the history of this dramatic building. There is an excellent tea-room serving hot and cold food, and again, this could be considered one of the more beautiful walks in Scotland.
